Philament Electrical: ESD

Philament Electrical products are used mainly in the electronics and automotive industry where electrostatic charging of the printed object can damage the product. Objects printed with Philament CONDUCTIVE, ESD or ANTISTATIC do not charge electrostatically due to the special carbon and chemical additives. Additionally, the dust and fine powder does not stick on the surface.

To decide for which application which filament suits the best, can be determined mainly experimentally. It depends on the electrical and mechanical requirements of the objects, and the 3D printing parameters. Philament Antistatic has the best mechanical properties, similar to standard PLA. Philament Conductive is the most rigid in this line, because of the used carbon powder and fiber, required for conductivity. Philament ESD is somewhere in the middle range.

Philament ESD provides surface resistance at megaohm order of magnitude, but this highly depends on the size and shape of the printed object. As a rule of thumb, if the printing temperature is higher, the surface resistivity is lower.

For proper printing results we recommend 210-240 °C printing temperature, at least 0.4 mm nozzle, and printing speed no higher than 60 mm / sec. Bed temperature 40-60 °C, usually any type of bed  surface can be used.

Philament Electrical’s benefits

These filaments provide different surface resistivities resistances:

  • Philament Antistatic: relatively slow charge decay
  • Philament ESD: dissipation or decay of static charges
  • Philament Conductive: very fast charge decay

Philament ESD and Conductive are black, because of the applied carbon.  Philament Antistatic originally is whitish, crystal color. However according to clients request it can be produced it in any color.

Philament products are winded on a transparent plastic spool. Spools are sealed with shrink foil, and we deliver them in an environmentally friendly cardboard box which is also covered with shrink wrap.

Philament PLA

Philament PLA products differ from most used filaments in that they are composite material, which means, that in addition to PLA they contain several ingredients: pigment, lubricant, filler, impact modifier. Modification of PLA resulted a “softer” filament with easy to print characteristic, even at lower temperature. The low shrinkage of Philament PLA results, that the printed object will not deform, accordingly, there is no need for heated bed.

Thanks to the strict quality control from the purchase of the raw material to the production, the smooth roundness and the exact diameter of the produced filaments result in excellent 3D printing quality. Philament products can be used with all common desktop 3D printers based on FDM / FFF technology.
